The DUs also provide control over the DAU by allowing the user to select which channel of the DAU is providing excitation or choosing which DAU channel’s readings to use in case of a sensor acquisition failure.
Howell currently has 3″ ATI, 7″ and 10″ DU form factors. Each can be programmed with custom graphics to allow minimal changes in user interface with the legacy instrumentation system. At the same time, a more robust warning system can be implemented to incorporate flight manual limitations to ease pilot workload and ensure that the systems are being correctly managed.

Specifications
The DU shall meet the following TSO requirements: Environmental, Software and Hardware certifications, whether complete or incomplete, guidance per the following Technical Standard Order (TSO);
There are several of the TSO authorizations listed that are considered “Components of a complete system” as defined in FAA Policy PS-AIRI00-8150.1B, FAA
Order 8150.1 B, Technical Standard Order Program, Policy Clarification, June 13, 2003″, and as such, those TSO authorizations will be marked as “Incomplete System”. The functions of the DU that relate to any of the “Incomplete” TSO authorizations will only be compliant to the TSO when used in conjunction with another aircraft system authorized by that TSO.
The product label for the DU will reflect those TSO authorizations that are complete and will state that additional “Incomplete” TSO authorizations are listed in the installation manual (see below list).
- Engine Monitoring System (EMS/MFD) – Engine gauge display and mapping display
- Complete TSO Authorization
- TSO C 113 Airborne Multipurpose Electronic Displays
- Incomplete TSO Authorization
- TSO C44c Fuel Flow meters
- TSO C45b Manifold Pressure Instruments
- TSO C47a Pressure Instruments – Fuel, Oil, and Hydraulic
- TSO C49b Electric Tachometer: Magnetic Drag (Indicator and Generator)
- TSO C43c incomplete Class Ill a Temperature Instruments
